Herbicide is a type of chemical or natural medicine used to kill, control, or stop the growth of unwanted plants, which we call weeds. Weeds compete with crops for sunlight, water, space, and nutrients — making crops weaker and reducing harvest quality and quantity.

Examples of common weeds:

  • Wild grass

  • Dandelions

  • Parthenium (congress grass)

  • Amaranth (pigweed)

Types of Herbicides:

  • Selective Herbicide: Kills only specific weeds, not the main crop.

  • Non-selective Herbicide: Kills all plants it touches.

  • Pre-emergent Herbicide: Applied before weed seeds grow.

  • Post-emergent Herbicide: Applied after weeds have already appeared.
