Fungicide is a type of agricultural medicine (chemical or biological) that is used to prevent, control, or kill harmful fungi that attack crops. Fungi are microorganisms that cause serious plant diseases like:

  • Leaf spots

  • Rusts

  • Blights

  • Mildews

  • Rots

If not controlled, fungal infections can damage leaves, stems, fruits, roots, and reduce the crop yield and quality heavily.

How Fungicides Work

Fungicides protect crops in three main ways:

  1. Prevent fungal infection:
Fungicides create a protective barrier on plant surfaces, stopping fungal spores from infecting the plants.

  2. Kill fungi already present:
Some fungicides can penetrate the plant and kill fungi growing inside the tissues.

  3. Stop fungi from spreading:
Fungicides can slow down or block the reproduction of fungi, preventing the disease from moving from plant to plant.
